Achilles Problems? What now..

Trust me, I know about Achilles problems. Suffered twice myself and the simple fact that I refused to leave me brain at the entrance of the doctors office allowed me to come back fairly quickly. Believe me folks 150 mg of Voltaren is not the solution....

There are 230 thousand Achilles Tendon injuries documented in the US every year. That doesn't sound that much if you look at the overall population of more than 300 million people in the US. However, if you can estimate how many of those 300 million people actually exercise on a regular basis you'll find that 230 thousand cases of that common injury is quite a lot. Well and if you are one of the people who has it you don't really care how big a chance it is to get it. You wanna know how to get rid of it.

COMMON CAUSES FOR ACHILLES TENDON INJURIES

Overuse, improper footwear, lack of stretching, medication side effects and accidents can all cause this injury. Very often - especially amongst athletes - you will find that the cause is based in a tight Gluteus Maximus (your butt) due to overuse or lack of stretching.

WAYS TO PREVENT THE INJURY

By properly warming up before a workout with active stretching and slow running or cycling as well as by strengthening the Achilles Tendon injuries can be prevented. However, as soon as you feel something wrong with the Achilles address it right away as a worse injury can be prevented.

TREATMENTS FOR ACHILLES TENDON INJURIES

There are many different ways of treating such injury. Icing, inflammatory medication and stretching are amongst the most common ways to be treated. However, speaking from own experience an Achilles Tendon injury is best treated by so called alternative medicine such as acupuncture combined with massages, stretching and cupping. Those methods have reduced my recovery time by more than 3/4 of the usual time. For me personally it took only 3 sessions to get from not being able to walk to running 30 miles a week. Slow miles - but running. (After 3 months of using high dosage of Voltaren as subscribed by the doctor).
As with all injuries - listen to your body and see if you can avoid unnecessary medication that wears out your body additionally. Besides that - inflammatory medication reduces the swelling and the pain but not the cause of the problem. The injury will most likely come back if not treated correctly.
